| Prayer for Advent 4, Year C using “O come, O come Immanuel” Eternal God, even as we wait on the threshold of Christmas, help us prepare anew for your Word to become incarnate in and among us. Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 1 We pray for your holy Church . . . Remain with us in all our days of expectation, that our lives may birth what is just and good. Silence Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 2 We pray for this world, which you have given to our stewardship. Help us to be prudent and respectful, that we may nurture all life with justice and joy. Silence Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 3 We pray for those who give their lives to keep us and all people safe, especially . . . Show all of us how to not only observe your Law, but live it, that, through our living, all creation might find peace. Silence Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 4 We pray for all caregivers, especially . . . , teachers, counselors, and all those who give their lives to help others. Give us, each and all, a spirit of courage, wisdom, and insight, that we might grow into your wholeness and health. Silence Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 5 We pray for all those who are imprisoned or oppressed, whether by iron bars or social inequities or mental or physical infirmity, especially . . . Grant them comfort and release, by the presence of your Spirit and our hearts and hands, that we may all face the future with boldness as your children. Silence Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 6 We pray for all those who cannot find your hope in life. Open every heart and mind to the light of your possibilities, that we may all live lives awash in your true joy. Silence Even so, quickly come. All sing stanza 7 We pray for our leaders, and the leaders of all nations, cities, and towns. Inspire their hearts, fill them with your will, that your true order and liberty may be the reality for all people everywhere. Silence Quickly come, great God. Come into our hearts and minds. Come into our daily lives and our society. Come into our Christmas. Hear these and all our prayers, in the name of your Son, Jesus, whose coming we await, and who taught us to pray, saying Our Father in heaven . . . |
