Prayers for Advent 3 C with “Watchman, tell us of the night” (Hymn 168 in Rejoice in the Lord)

All sing “Watchman, tell us of the night”

We wait and we watch, O God,

looking for doubt and terror to withdraw,

and we pray for everyone in special need this day . . .

Give them the comfort of a quiet, safe home,

let the light of your love dawn upon them,

and help us to be instruments of your Peace for them,

making the darkness fly away.

Hear our prayers          and show us signs of your promise.

[Silence]

We wait and we watch, O God,

looking for blessedness, light, peace, and truth

to ascend among us,

and we pray for this world you have given us

and for all the people in it,

especially those in the darkness of

conflict, danger, ignorance, and oppression,

and we pray for those women and men who lay down their lives

to keep family, friends, and neighbors safe, especially . . .

and we pray for those who lead us . . .

Give them your wisdom, fill them with your truth,

and show us how to be your light in all the world,

helping it to burst over all the earth.

Hear our prayers          and show us signs of your promise.

[Silence]

We wait and we watch, O God,

looking for the promised day for your chosen people,

and we pray for your Church . . .

Teach us how to be the beauteous ray

that foretells your joy and your hope,

that makes them not just promises,

but realities in all the world.

Hear our prayers          and show us signs of your promise.

[Silence]

Be with us, O God, in our watching and our waiting.

Give us the strength to never wait a moment

before our souls tell out your greatness in unceasing joy,

in the name of the Prince of Peace,

the Son of God who HAS come,

 who WILL come,

 who IS come even now,

and who taught us to pray saying,

Our Father in heaven . . .
