Psalm 25:7 begins "Do not remember the sins of my youth", which is what came to mind as I revisited this tune. It was written circa 1990 for the restructuring of the Synod of the Mid-Atlantics under their Synod Executive, Peter Paulsen. At the rehearsal for the service in which the new structure was to be formalized, the organist approached me and commented that its triplets were a bit of a challenge. Naive and obtuse, I replied that I meant them to be so, as that reflected the uncertainty of the task the Synod was undertaking. I might also have thought that if Ebeneezer could sport triplets, I could use them too. At any rate, the congregation proved that they successfully reflected uncertainty! "Do not remember the sins of my youth". I do hope it is the thought that counts!
