The Reverend Dr. Hugh Koops was Professor of Ethics at New Brunswick when Alzheimer's disease claimed his mind and forced his resignation. To help the seminary community mourn its loss of a great mind and a great man, James and I collaborated on a text and tune. The change from minor to major mode was a deliberate decision in setting the stanzas, an implicit promise that even in the midst of evident defeat, there is hope, and God's promise will prevail.
