Christmas Greeting was among our first attempts at a home-made card to our correspondents at Yuletide. James wrote a text that, rather than telling a story or positing theological assertions, was a series of vignettes on which to meditate. The short phrases of the melody reflect those "snapshots" of God's incarnation in human form. The dissonances among the voices are deliberate attempts at painting our need for and grateful acceptance of God's gift on the one hand, and our human propensity for selfish disregard and forgetfulness on the other. |
