Beautiful City was named for the text James wrote to describe the urban ministries in which the Synod of the Mid Atlantics of the Reformed Church in America, in which we lived at the time, were involved. It is one of the longest tunes I have written, and one that, unlike most of my longer tunes, is through-composed from beginning to end.
